Backstrom helping Wild to strong start

Minnesota (6-0-1) at Dallas (3-4-2) 8:30 p.m. EDT

DALLAS (Ticker) -- Niklas Backstrom has been the key to the

Minnesota Wild's hot start.

Backstrom and the Wild try to remain the only team in the NHL

without a regulation loss on Wednesday when they visit the

Dallas Stars.

The 30-year-old goaltender has started every game for Minnesota

this season, helping the team earn at least one point in each of

its seven contests. He ranks third in the league with a 1.98

goals-against average and has a .932 save percentage - fourth

best in the NHL.

The Finnish netminder made 34 saves for the Wild, including 18

in the second period alone, and Mikko Koivu notched three

assists as Minnesota claimed a 3-2 triumph over the Chicago

Blackhawks on Monday.

Backstrom will have to be at his best against the Stars, who

have not been short on offense over their last two games,

scoring five goals in each contest.

After forging a two-goal victory against the New York Islanders

on Thursday, Dallas dropped a 6-5 overtime decision to the

Washington Capitals on Saturday.
