Barenaked Ladies record version of old 'Hockey Night in Canada' theme

TORONTO - The Barenaked Ladies have recorded their own version of the old "Hockey Night in Canada" theme.

For years, the iconic tune was a mainstay on CBC, but TSN nabbed the rights earlier this year.

The network has since given the song a minor makeover with a fresh recording by members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

Another rock version was then recorded by Simple Plan, and the new Barenaked Ladies rendition is being described as "intricate and textured."

It's set to debut next month during televised games on TSN and RDS.

Barenaked Ladies drummer Tyler Stewart says he was excited to record a new version since he's a diehard hockey fan.

He says it's also a thrill for the band because the song "means so much to so many people across the country."
