Ben Maxwell scores twice as Hamilton cruises by Americans 4-1

HAMILTON, Ont. - Ben Maxwell scored twice and the Hamilton Bulldogs scored three times in the first period en route to a 4-1 win over the Rochester Americans in American Hockey League play Saturday.

P.K. Subban opened the scoring at 8:00 on the power play, and Maxwell scored his first of the game for the Bulldogs (38-14-8) just over a minute later.

With Hamilton defenceman Frederic St. Denis serving two minutes for holding, Ryan Russell was hooked by a Rochester defenceman as he broke in on Americans goaltender Tyler Plante. Russell's ensuing short-handed penalty shot put the Bulldogs up 3-0.

The Americans (33-26-2) lone goal came from Max Gratchev in the second, but Maxwell scored again in the third to put the game away.

Hamilton goalie Cedrick Desjardins made 18 saves for the win, while at the other end Plante stopped 29 shots.
