Blue Jackets centre Derick Brassard named NHL rookie of the month

NEW YORK - Columbus Blue Jackets centre Derick Brassard was named the NHL's rookie of the month Monday after leading all freshmen with nine points in 10 games.

Brassard, a Hull, Que., native selected sixth overall in the 2006 draft, scored four goals with five assists.

Forwards Kris Versteeg of the Chicago Blackhawks (two goals-six assists in nine games), Jakub Voracek of Columbus (3-4 in 10 games) and Fabian Brunnstrom of the Dallas Stars (5-1 in eight games) were among the other players considered for the award.
