Blue Jackets' Jeff Carter on injured reserve with hairline crack on right foot

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Jeff Carter and the Columbus Blue Jackets are not getting the start to the season that they'd hoped for.

The Blue Jackets placed Carter on injured reserve Tuesday after the centre sustained a hairline crack on his right foot.

The 26-year-old was Columbus' biggest off-season acquisition. The Blue Jackets traded forward Jakub Voracek, a 2011 first-round pick and a 2011 third-round pick to the Philadelphia Flyers for the former all-star.

Carter has three assists in five games with the Blue Jackets this season. The former first-round draft pick scored 36 goals and 30 assists for Philadelphia last season.

Columbus also added goaltender Mathieu Corbeil to the roster on emergency recall from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Saint John Sea Dogs.

Corbeil, 20, has gone 7-2-0 with a 2.61 goals-against average and .899 save percentage in nine games with the Sea Dogs this season.
