COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Blue Jackets signed left-winger Jason Chimera to a US$7.5-million, four-year contract extension through the 2011-12 season on Wednesday.

He'll earn $1.875 million each of the next four years after making $1 million this season.

Chimera has 23 points (9-14) in 55 games this season.

Also Wednesday, the Jackets recalled goaltender Steve Mason from the OHL's Kitchener Rangers and left-winger Joakim Lindstrom from the Syracuse Crunch and reassigned defenceman Duvie Westcott to the AHL team.

Mason will back up Fredrik Norrena in the absence of goaltender Pascal Leclaire, who is expected to miss at least two games with a bruised neck suffered during Tuesday night's 4-3 overtime loss to the Washington Capitals.

Chimera, 28, has 125 points (60-65) and 328 penalty minutes in 347 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and Edmonton Oilers.

Mason, 19, has a record of 22-6-3 with a 2.79 goals-against average, .914 save percentage and three shutouts in 31 OHL games. In January, he was named the MVP at the 2008 world junior championship after leading Canada to its fourth straight gold medal.

Lindstrom, 24, has appeared in 11 games with the Blue Jackets this season, scoring two goals with four assists. A second-round pick in 2002, he has three goals and four assists in 23 career NHL games.
