Sunday’s contest between the St. Louis Blues and Florida Panthers turned out to be a goalie duel, and the kid they call ‘Moose’ ended up winning with a 40-save performance highlighted by a diving glove catch.

Brian Elliott was under siege in the third period as his Blues tried to hold on to a one-goal lead. The Panthers peppered the net, firing 15 shots on net in a span of 4:29 before St. Louis manage to get a shot at the other end.

But Elliott stood tall in the face of all that rubber, and made a potentially game-saving stop on Aleksander Barkov.

The save came during a 4-on-3 Panthers advantage in the middle of the period. Elliott stopped Nick Bjugstad slapshot from the right circle, then dove across the crease with his glove up to snare the rebound off Barkov’s stick.

Elliott stopped 21 shots in the third period, though Bjugstad finally managed to beat him and tied the game at 18:47.

The game ultimately went to a shootout and Elliott stopped four of five shooters, while Vladimir Tarasenko and Jori Lehtera beat Roberto Luongo at the other end.

It was a busy night for Luongo, too. He stopped 33 pucks, though he didn’t have to be the difference in the game the way Elliott did.

Elliott was just 1:13 away from tying Jaroslav Halak's franchise-record 20 shutouts in a Blues uniform.
