Blues bringing blind father, son from emotional Stanley Cup video to Game 2

The hockey world met Wyatt and Gerry Nelson last week and watched the incredible story of a son and his blind father, learning how the game brought the two Saskatoon Blades fans even closer. But after the NHL showcased the Nelsons’ story, the St. Louis Blues decided to take things one step further.

A camera crew headed to Saskatoon this past Friday, where the Nelsons live, and got to learn more about Wyatt and Gerry, including taking a glimpse at Wyatt’s collection of hockey memorabilia. The visit from the cameras was about more than simply diving deeper into the story of the father and son, though, as the Blues had a special surprise in store for Wyatt and Gerry.

During the visit, Gerry received a phone call from Blues GM Doug Armstrong and radio analyst Kelly Chase, a former Blade, inviting both Wyatt and Gerry to Game 2 of the Western Conference final:

Last week, @NHL introduced us to Wyatt & Gerry. Their moment with the #StanleyCup was just the beginning. #stlblues

Beyond visiting St. Louis for Game 2, Wyatt will get his chance to go live on the air during the post-season game, which should be a piece of cake for the 12-year-old. For much of the past season, Wyatt has been doing the play-by-play live at Blades games so his father Gerry can see the game through his son’s eyes. And from the brief clip in the video of Gerry and Wyatt meeting the Stanley Cup, it sure seems like the younger Nelson has the skill to call a game live.
