Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas named NHL's first star of the week

TORONTO - Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas, San Jose Sharks centre Joe Thornton and Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Duncan Keith are the NHL three stars of the week.

Thomas earned first star honours after stopping all 49 shots he faced in shutout victories over Toronto and Ottawa last week. He has won all six of his starts this season and has a 0.50 goals-against average with a .984 save percentage and three shutouts.

Thornton was named the second star after leading all scorers last week with three goals and five assists in two games. Thornton leads the Sharks and ranks fifth in NHL scoring with five goals and 10 assists in nine games this season.

Keith is the third star of the week after leading all defencemen in scoring with one goal and six assists in three games.
