Brock Trotter's hat-trick gives Bulldogs 5-2 victory over Griffins

HAMILTON, Ont. - Brock Trotter recorded the hat-trick and Mike Glumac had two goals as the Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins 5-2 on Saturday night in the AHL.

Following a scoreless first period, the Bulldogs opened the game's scoring at 1:43 of the second period. Goaltender Jordan Pearce stopped two shots from Glumac but could not stop the third shot as Trotter grabbed the loose rebound and slid the puck past the Griffins' goaltender.

Trotter added his second goal of the period at 7:16 while on the power play as David Desharnais dished a cross-crease pass to Trotter, who sent a shot over a sprawled Pearce.

Hamilton added its third goal at 16:05 when Shawn Belle sent a pass to Andre Benoit, who blasted a shot from the point that Glumac tipped.

Glumac added his second goal at 2:31 of the final frame, pouncing on a loose rebound and stuffing the puck underneath Pearce.

Grand Rapids got on the scoreboard at 6:52 of the third period as Mattias Ritola beat Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins with a deke move.

The Griffins cut the lead to two at 9:15 when Jamie Tardif intercepted a failed clearing attempt and blasted on Desjardins, who was caught out of position.

Trotter secured the win with an empty-netter.

Pearce made 33 saves from 37 shots for Grand Rapids (20-18-1), while Desjardins stopped 25 of 27 for Hamilton (25-9-5).
