Bruins' Pastrnak out at least two games with elbow ailment

The Czech winger has tormented NHL rivals in his third NHL season. But they won't have to worry about him for a bit.

David Pastrnak has been nearly unstoppable this season. His 19 goals heading into action Saturday rank second in the NHL behind only Sidney Crosby’s 21. While defenses and goaltenders have proven to be able unable to slow him down, it appears there is something that can – at least for the time being.

The Boston Bruins announced Saturday that the right winger had a procedure to remove the olecranon bursa from his right elbow. The minor procedure, done Friday, will cause him to miss at least the next two games. GM Tim Sweeney added his condition will be reassessed on a day-to-day basis.

Pastrnak, 20, played 20:43 and had five shots in his last game, a 4-3 loss to Anaheim on Thursday. His 19 goals are already a career high, besting the 15 he posted in his sophomore season in 2015-16. Pastrnak has 26 points in 27 games this season.

The Bruins (16-13-3, third in the Atlantic) host Los Angeles and the Islanders on Sunday and Tuesday. Boston’s following contest is next Thursday in Florida against the Panthers.

Pastrnak’s offense will no doubt be missed. In the interim, the Bruins will count on a bunch of veterans whose goal totals could use a bump. Centers Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci have just 10 goals between them, while wingers Brad Marchand and David Backes have scored nine and seven times.
