Buffalo Sabres assign goalie Jhonas Enroth to Portland

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Buffalo Sabres finalized their 23-man roster Wednesday by assigning goalie Jhonas Enroth to Portland of the American Hockey League.

The team also announced forward Matt Ellis cleared waivers and also will going to Portland.

Ellis played in 72 games for the Sabres last season, but became expendable when Buffalo signed veteran free- agent Rob Niedermayer.

Meanwhile, coach Lindy Ruff said that both injured forward Thomas Vanek (head) and defenceman Craig Rivet (throat) have a good chance of being ready for Friday's season opener at Ottawa after they both skated in practice.

Buffalo also signed 11-year NHL veteran forward Mark Parrish and loaned him to Portland. Parrish spent the pre-season with Buffalo on a tryout contract.
