Bulldogs clinch home ice advantage in playoffs with 3-2 win over Griffins

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - David Desharnais's third-period goal helped the Hamilton Bulldogs edge the Grand Rapids Griffins 3-2 in AHL action Friday.

With the win, the Bulldogs (48-27-4-0) clinched second place in the North Division and home-ice advantage in their first round series with the Griffins (43-24-6-6).

Grand Rapids opened the scoring in the first period when Mattias Ritola's shot deflected off Jakub Kindl past Hamilton starting goaltender Marc Denis.

Bulldogs centre Ben Maxwell tied the game back up less than a minute later with a shot past Griffins goalie Jimmy Howard.

Francis Lemieux gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead at 5:25 of the second.

But Mike Glumac tied the game 2-2 just 44 seconds into the third before Desharnais banged a loose rebound past Howard for the winner.

Denis made 24 saves for the win, while at the other end Howard stopped 40 shots.
