CALGARY - The Calgary Flames claimed defenceman Brett Carson off waivers from Carolina on Monday.
He has split this season between the Hurricanes and the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League. Carson has 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) and 20 penalty minutes in 72 career NHL games."By claiming Brett off waivers, we believe we have filled our need for depth on our blue-line," acting general manager Jay Feaster said in a release. "We had been carrying eight defencemen prior to the injury to Adam Pardy and by adding Brett we are strengthened again to eight at that position."We have watched Brett a lot this year. He is a big guy who moves the puck very well."
Carson, a Regina native, played for the Western Hockey League's Calgary Hitmen from 2002-'06. He was drafted by Carolina in the fourth round (No. 109 overall) of the 2004 NHL entry draft.
