Calgary Flames claim Blake forward Comeau on waivers, demote Paul Byron

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames are hoping a change of scenery will help Blake Comeau pull out of a long scoring funk.

The Flames claimed the struggling forward off waivers from the New York Islanders on Friday.

Comeau scored 24 goals last season but had been held pointless through 16 games with the Isles this year.

The 25-year-old is currently earning US$2.5-million on a one-year deal.

Comeau was a second-round pick of the Islanders in 2004 and has racked up 121 points (56-65) in 261 career NHL games.

The Flames sent forward Paul Byron to AHL Abbotsford to make room for him on the roster.
