Calgary Flames new third jersey so-so, but has some nice touches

The Flames officially released their third jerseys Sunday at their fanfest. While they leave you wanting in the end, they have some nice touches that give them an overall passing grade.

After a series of

Twitter teases and a

video game leak nearly a month ago, the Flames officially released their third jerseys today at their fanfest. They’ll wear the new sweaters 12 times throughout this season, the first time being this Friday, Nov. 1, against the Detroit Red Wings.

Though I’m not overly impressed with the main logo treatment -- baseball-style lettering should be left to college teams -- the jerseys do feature a few redeeming qualities: the shoulder patch is very cool (I would have loved to have seen that as the main crest), the design around the inside collar is a nice touch and, of course, you can never go wrong with laces.

And, thankfully, they’ll wear black pants, rather than a red-with-red scheme. Overall, with the Blackhawks home being a 10 and the Islanders thirds being a one, I’d give the new Flames jersey a 6.5. Here's a video on the history of the Flames jersey and the story behind the new design (including a very brief look at some unused concepts):
