Cam Ward robs Blake Comeau with reach back stick save

Coming off a hat trick, you’d think a wide-open cage was as easy as it could get for Blake Comeau. Cam Ward had other ideas, however, as he made an outstanding save to rob Comeau of his fourth goal in two games.

Coming off a recent hat trick, you wouldn’t be wrong if you were to say that Blake Comeau had a hot hand. On Friday night, however, Cam Ward showed Comeau something of his own.

Midway through the first period with the score tied, Kris Letang cycled the puck back into the corner to Evgeni Malkin. In seconds the puck was off the stick of Malkin and deftly moved on to Comeau, who faked a forehand shot, swooped it to his backhand, and went to lift it into the yawning cage. Ward had a different idea:

The broadcast suggests that Ward might be able to look at a future as a cricketer. Suffice to say he’s no Ricky Ponting, but he certainly showed an incredible paddle on this save.

Ward’s save would prove to be huge, as little less than five minutes later, the Hurricanes would pull ahead for a 1-0 lead. Ward and the Hurricanes went on to a 4-2 win, only their seventh win of the season.
