Canadiens forward Plekanec suspended for taking down Grebeshkov

TORONTO - The NHL suspended Montreal Canadiens forward Tomas Plekanec two games Thursday for taking down Edmonton Oilers defenceman Denis Grebeshkov from behind.

The incident came early in the second period of Edmonton's 7-2 win Wednesday night. Grebeshkov had to be helped off the ice after being run feet-first into the boards by Plekanec.

He was assessed a minor penalty for tripping on the play.

Plekanec will miss Friday's game at Colorado and Sunday's contest in Vancouver, forfeiting US $17,204 in salary. He's eligible to return Feb. 18 against Washington.
