Canadiens sign defence prospect Pavel Valentenko to three-year deal

Financial terms of the deal were not released. The six-foot-two, 202-pound Valentenko had two assists and 62 penalty minutes last season with Nazhnekamsk Neftekhimik of the Russian Superleague.

Valentenko was Montreal's fifth-round pick in the 2006 draft.

The 19-year-old won a silver medal at the world junior championships in Sweden in January and was named Russia's player of the game in a loss to Canada in the final.
