Can't lose for winning

Kevin Cave, Victoria, B.C.

The last time I checked, the guy who loses the election doesn't get to run a third of the country, so how does it make any sense that we're still awarding a point to the loser of a game that always decides a winner?

The NHL got lucky this year that Philadelphia managed to clinch the final playoff spot on the last day. Had they not qualified, it would've meant they had more wins than the Rangers, Canadiens and Bruins, but still missed the playoffs.

Some people argue whether shootout wins should be what gets you into the playoffs, but what would be worse is if you got into the playoffs based on 82 loser points if all of your loses just happened to come after 60 minutes.

I hope the next time I buy a lottery ticket they give me 33 percent of the prize just for playing.
