Canucks D O'Brien believes Norris nominee Doughty already a champion chirper

VANCOUVER - Forget about the Norris Trophy?Vancouver Canucks defenceman Shane O?Brien said his Los Angeles Kings counterpart should get a different award.

If O'Brien had his way, Doughty, who was nominated for the NHL's top blue-liner award Friday, would be named the league?s chirping champion.

During Game 4 in L.A., O'Brien got into a heated exchange with Canucks assistant coach Rick Bowness after a tussle with Doughty, who taunted him all the way back to the Vancouver bench. Downplaying the confrontation with his coach, O'Brien said Doughty was to blame, along with a few other Kings.

"He kept chirping and chirping and chirping," said O?Brien.

In addition to playing a strong defensive and offensive role in the series, said O?Brien, the Kings star is "definitely getting under some guys' skins."

Doughty said he was merely returning the favour.

"When they get under my skin, I like to give it back," said Doughty. "I don't like to be the only one getting the chirps, so I'm definitely giving back as much as I can.

"I'm not really a tough guy though, so I don't really have much to back it up with. But I'll definitely feed out a few."
