Canucks winger Jannik Hansen is the third player to be handed a fine for diving this season as the NHL announced Thursday the 29-year-old has been fined $2,000 for embellishing a call.

The incident in question came during a Dec. 22 game against Tampa Bay when Hansen drew a call when he was run into by Lightning defenseman Nikita Nesterov while forechecking on a penalty kill. Hansen was trying to slip the check of Nesterov, and instead of driving around him, Hansen instead left his feet in order to sell the call:

Nesterov was hit with a minor penalty for interference, but the referees evened up the calls by handing Hansen two minutes for embellishment.

As with all instances of diving, this is the second time Hansen has been flagged for diving. The first occurrence came following a Nov. 4 game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Hansen didn’t receive a diving call in that game, but he did draw two penalties. The first penalty was a hooking call against Nick Bonino and the second was a trip against Ian Cole.

If Hansen is caught diving again, the fine will increase to $3,000 and can increase to a maximum of $5,000. Fine No. 5 would include a $2,000 fine for coach Willie Desjardins, and could increase to $5,000 for Desjardins if Hansen is disciplined for diving eight times.
