According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Vancouver Canucks will make Jim Rutherford the team's next interim M and president.

According to Friedman, Rutherford will look to bring in a new GM that he can work with, although no timeline for that process is known.

TSN's Darren Dreger first reported that the Canucks were set to hire Rutherford.

Before suddenly resigning from Pittsburgh in January of 2021, Rutherford, 72, won two Stanley cups in 2016 and 2017 with the Penguins.

His first Stanley Cup came while leading the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006, and he also won the league's Jim Gregory GM of the year award in 2016. Rutherford was named to the Hockey Hall of Fame as a builder in 2019.

The move comes days after the Canucks cleaned house, firing GM Jim Benning and coach Travis Green, among other moves.
