NEW YORK, N.Y. - Vancouver Canucks left-winger Daniel Sedin will go for an unprecedented family double at the NHL awards banquet June 22.

Sedin, right-winger Corey Perry of the Anaheim Ducks and Tampa Bay Lightning right-winger Martin St. Louis were named finalists for the Hart Trophy on Thursday.

Sedin's twin brother and linemate Henrik Sedin won the MVP award last year. They could become the first brother tandem to win the Hart in consecutive years.

“It’s exciting for us,”said Daniel Sedin.“Last year was kind of neat.

"We never expected any of us to be up there, to be mentioned with those kind of players. To do it back-to-back is obviously nice. But it’s something to look back at after our careers.”

Daniel Sedin also had nothing but praise for Perry and St. Louis.

“They’re both great players and mean a lot to their teams,”he said.

Daniel Sedin led the league with 104 points (41 goals, 63 assists) this season to help the Canucks finish first in the NHL's overall standings. He sparked the league's top-ranked power play with an NHL-best 18 goals and 42 points with the extra man. Sedin was also tied for second among NHL forwards with a plus-30 rating.

“I think Danny really wanted to prove to his brother that he’s just as good as him so he’s done that part,”said Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault.“But, I mean, it’s history, twin brothers playing together.

"One year, one brother gets it one year. The other year the other brother is nominated for it and has a good chance of getting it. I think it’s phenomenal. It says a lot about who they are, how they’ve improved (and) how they’ve worked on their game throughout the years.”

Perry had a late surge of 19 goals in his final 16 games that raised his season total to a league-leading 50. He helped launch the Ducks from 11th place in the Western Conference to a season-ending fourth. Perry shared the league lead with 11 game-winning goals and was tied for fifth in power-play goals (14) and short-handed goals (four).

St. Louis, who won the Hart Trophy in 2004, finished second in the league with 99 points (31-68). St. Louis tied a franchise record for assists in a season and posted the second-highest point total in his 12-year NHL career.

Members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association submitted ballots for the Hart Trophy at the conclusion of the regular season. The NHL awards banquet will be held in Las Vegas.

“I’ve never been to Vegas, so I’m going to bring my family,”Daniel Sedin said.
