Capitals bruiser Tom Wilson blasts Islanders' Lubomir Visnovsky with massive hit

The first-round series between the Capitals and Islanders features two of the biggest and most frequent hitters in the NHL in New York's Cal Clutterbuck and Matt Martin. It's Washington's Tom Wilson, however, whose thrown the biggest hit of the series.

In the second period of Tuesday's Game 4, Lubomir Visnovsky chased a loose puck into the right wing corner of New York's zone when Wilson, who was flying into the zone with his eyes locked on Visnovsky, delivered a hit that literally lifted the Islanders blueliner off his feet:

Wilson was whistled for charging on the play and Visnovsky had to be helped off the ice, but the chances the Capitals winger is dinged for a suspension on this play are pretty slim. As NBC analyst Pierre McGuire says in the clip, Visnovsky moved his body into position where even a clean check would put his head in line with Wilson's shoulder. And even though Wilson was called for charging, he didn't leave his feet to deliver the check, but had simply taken too many strides to make contact.

For Wilson, the charging minor was the second penalty he had taken in a span of 2:22, meaning 22 seconds after exiting the penalty box, he was headed right back to sit for another minor penalty. Luckily for Wilson, the Capitals killed off the Islanders' man advantage.

Visnovsky did not return to the game in the second period, but there has been no word whether he's out for the evening.
