Capitals eyeing fifth straight win vs. Blues

St Louis (12-15-3) at Washington (19-10-3), 7:00 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Washington Capitals were a great

story in 2007-08. This season, they are becoming a great team.

Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals seek their fifth consecutive

victory Thursday when they host the St. Louis Blues, who are

heading in the opposite direction.

The reigning Hart Trophy recipient, Ovechkin scored twice -

including the game-winner with 11 seconds remaining in overtime

as Washington recorded a 5-4 triumph over the New York Islanders

on Tuesday.

Boyd Gordon, Brooks Laich and defenseman Milan Jurcina also

scored for the Capitals, who improved to 6-1-0 over their last

seven games.

Nicklas Backstrom had two assists and Brent Johnson finished

with 35 saves Tuesday for Washington, which made a remarkable

turnaround last season - winning the Southeast Division after

finishing last the previous three campaigns.

The Blues have lost four straight contests, including a 6-3

setback to the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.

Rookie Patrik Berglund, Brad Boyes and David Backes netted a

goal apiece for St. Louis, which is 3-7-1 in its last 11 games.
