Capitals re-sign rugged defenceman John Erskine to US$1.75-million, two-year deal

He will earn $525,000 this season and $550,000 in 2008-09. Erskine, 27, had seven points (1-6), a minus-13 rating and 69 penalty minutes in 29 games for the Capitals last season.

The six-foot-four, 216-pound native of Kingston, Ont., has 12 points (4-8) and 405 penalty minutes in 170 career NHL games.
