Capitals star winger Alex Ovechkin scored two goals in the first round, but neither were as awesome as the brilliant wrist shot goal he scored Thursday in Game 1 of Washington's second-round series against the Rangers.

Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored twice in Washington's opening round series against the New York Islanders, but he didn't have the type of impact he's capable of. However, in Game 1 of the Caps' second-round series against the New York Rangers Thursday, the superstar quickly made his mark, scoring an incredible, seemingly impossible goal against Blueshirts star Henrik Lundqvist to give the Capitals the first lead of the night.

With Washington on the power play late in the first period, Ovechkin took a pass from teammate John Carlson at center ice, skated just inside the Rangers' blueline and from the top of the circle wired a perfect wrist shot over Lundqvist's right shoulder and just under the crossbar to make it 1-0 for the visiting team:

Ovechkin's goal was the 34th playoff marker of the 29-year-old winger's decade-long NHL career, and the latest addition to his now-hours-long all-time highlight reel. Few, if any NHLer could ever hope to beat Lundqvist the way Ovechkin did, but he demonstrated he's a danger to score from virtually any part of the playing surface.

Could the New York Rangers Part Ways With Artemi Panarin?

Panarin struggled in the post-season, and some reports have suggested it wouldn't be crazy if he was shipped out of the Big Apple. Still, as Lyle Richardson says, it would be a challenge to move the forward.
