Carolina Hurricanes place Justin Williams on IR with broken hand

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Carolina Hurricanes placed forward Justin Williams on the injured reserve list Thursday.

He broke his hand when he was hit by teammate Anton Babchuk's shot during the first period of Sunday's win at Buffalo.

Williams sat out the first two months of the season with a torn Achilles tendon. He missed 43 games last season after having knee surgery, and that injury ended a string of 205 consecutive games played since March 2004 - the fourth-longest streak in franchise history.

The former first-round draft pick has three goals and seven assists in 32 games.

The Hurricanes have recalled defenceman Tim Conboy from AHL Albany.
