Columbus Blue Jackets forward Fredrik Modin moved to injured list

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed forward Fredrik Modin on injured reserve and made several other moves to reduce their roster to 23 players heading into Saturday's opener against Minnesota.

General manager Scott Howson announced Tuesday that the veteran Modin, who has a knee injury, will start the year on IR.

The Blue Jackets also placed left-winger Alexandre Picard and defenceman Mathieu Roy on waivers for the purpose of assignment to the club's American Hockey League affiliate in Syracuse; returned left-winger Matt Calvert to the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League; and released defenceman Martin Skoula.

The club also announced the signing of defencemen David Liffiton and Dylan Reese, with both players assigned to Syracuse.
