Columbus Blue Jackets sign defenceman Jan Hejda to two-year deal

Hejda, an unrestricted free agent, had one goal and eight assists in 39 games with the Edmonton Oilers last season, his first in North America. He also appeared in five games with Hamilton of the American Hockey League, collecting three assists.

Hejda has spent most of his pro career in the elite leagues in his native Czech Republic and in Russia. He has played for his homeland at the world championships four times. The six-foot-three, 209-pounder was Buffalo's fourth pick in the 2003 draft.
