Columbus Jackets confirm firing of president and GM Doug MacLean

The 53-year-old has been the team's only GM since it joined the NHL in 2000. Columbus had the second-most points by an expansion team with 71 in their first season, but haven't come within 19 points of the playoffs the past six years.

MacLean also served as the team's head coach in 2003.

Team spokesman Todd Sharrock confirmed the firing Thursday after several media reports said MacLean had been let go last night.
