Connor McDavid was at it again Monday, scoring a beautiful goal after deking one defender, faking out the goaltender and patiently holding the puck until he could slide it into the open net.

Every time we get a glimpse of one of Connor McDavid’s goals, it’s not hard to see exactly why he’s projected as the top pick in the upcoming draft.

During Monday’s Family Day game against Mississauga, Erie’s McDavid showed patience and poise beyond his years with a remarkable goal against Steelheads netminder Jacob Brennan. After slipping around a check from Stefan LeBlanc and a hack from Brandon Devlin, McDavid made a quick move to his forehand and slipped the puck behind Brennan for a beauty.

The goal, McDavid’s 30th in 34 games, was his first point of the afternoon. He finished the Monday outing with three points, which gives him 86 on the season, good for sixth in the OHL.

McDavid now sits 14 points off the league lead, but with 14 games left in the Otters’ season, it’s not likely that he takes home the first scoring title of his OHL career. He’ll just have to settle for highlight reel goals and being one of the top two selections in the draft. Ho-hum.
