In the past five seasons, there have been few goal scorers as prolific as Corey Perry. He put his knack for the back of the net on display Sunday night in Dallas.
With the first period winding down, Perry and newly acquired Jiri Sekac broke away on a 2-on-1. Sekac feathered a perfect saucer pass over to Perry, who tapped it out of the air, corralled it and then waited until Enroth had committed enough that he could easily shelf it over the Stars netminder’s outstretched pad.
When the Ducks dealt for Sekac, the hope was he could be the fit Anaheim was looking for alongside Perry and Ryan Getzlaf. If his passes keep leading to Perry finishes like this one, he might find a permanent fit on the top line.
It wasn’t just a brilliant goal, though. It helped Getzlaf grab a small piece of history.
On the play, Getzlaf registered his 41st assist of the season. Later in the game, Getzlaf added his 20th goal, giving him 669 points in his career, tying him for second place all-time on the Ducks scoring list.
