Coyotes’ Doan ‘seemed fine’ after hit from Gudas

The news isn’t as good for defenceman Michael Stone, who left the game in the third period after getting tangled up with Flyers' forward Michael Raffl.

It appears Shane Doan may have dodged a bullet.

Arizona’s captain appeared wobbly, and possibly concussed, following a third period hit from Flyers defenceman Radko Gudas on Saturday night.

The Coyotes leading scorer left the game with 13:53 remaining in the third and did not return to the game.

“Doaner seemed fine in there. Kept him out for precaution,” said Coyotes coach Dave Tippett.

Tippett didn’t seem amused that Gudas wasn’t penalized on the play.

“The hit on Doan is a blatant attempt… not the original hit, it’s after Shane’s on the wall, the hit. Not the original one, it’s the elbow and the hip and looking down at Shane’s head – with a guy that’s had a history of that, Tippett said.

Tippet believes the league will review Gudas’ hit on Doan.

“I would like to think so. They do a good job of looking at all that stuff so hopefully they will,” he said.

The news isn’t as good for defenceman Michael Stone.

With 8:37 remaining in the third, Stone left the game with an apparent left leg injury after getting tangled up with Flyers forward Michael Raffl.

“I watched it on tape, it didn’t look very good,” Tippett said. “But we will see where it is (Sunday).”

Stone is second to only Oliver Ekman-Larsson in points (36) and average time on ice per game (22:27) amongst Coyotes blue liners this season.

Saturday’s 2-1 victory kept the Coyotes mathematically in the hunt for a wild card in the Western Conference. Arizona is 10 points back of the Minnesota Wild with seven games remaining.

The Coyotoes conclude their four-game home stand on Monday when they play host to the Flames.
