Coyotes hope to snap slide against surging Stars

Phoenix (24-25-5) at Dallas (26-19-7), 8:30 pm EST

DALLAS (Ticker) -- The Phoenix Coyotes are quickly falling out

of the Western Conference playoff race.

The Coyotes will attempt to end a six-game losing streak

Wednesday, when they visit Marty Turco and the red-hot Dallas

Stars.

Steven Goertzen and captain Shane Doan both scored as Phoenix

suffered a 7-2 thrashing from the Carolina Hurricanes on

Saturday. The Coyotes have been outscored by a 25-10 margin

over their current slide.

Phoenix has a tough task in this one, facing one of the NHL's

hottest teams since the All-Star break. Behind the improved

play of Turco, the Stars have won seven of their last eight.

Turco, who will break a 40-year-old franchise record with his

24th consecutive start, made 25 saves in Sunday's 4-1 triumph

over the Nashville Predators. Cesare Maniago set the record

during the 1968-69 season, starting in 23 straight games.

The 33-year-old Turco is 25-17-7 with a 2.88 goals-against

average and two shutouts this season.

Turco's efforts have helped the Stars climb into a tie for fifth

place in the West, while the Coyotes have dropped to 13th - four

points out of the final playoff spot.
