'Dead meat' prime minister dodges predictions as NHL season gets underway

The Conservative leader was asked Wednesday for a Stanley Cup prognostication as the NHL season got underway.

"You know I'm dead meat if I make those kind of predictions in hockey," said Harper, who must juggle support from voters in six Canadian NHL cities.

The prime minister was less guarded about his 10-year-old son.

"I think Ben will be cheering for the Toronto Maple Leafs," said Harper. "That's his team."

The prime minister is working on a book about the pre-NHL history of the game, but recently conceded in an off-the-cuff conversation that the requirements of his day job have slowed down the project.
