Detroit Red Wings call up forward Ville Leino for their playoff push

DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings added some depth for what they hope will be a run toward another Stanley Cup.

Detroit recalled forward Ville Leino from the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday, a day before hosting the Columbus Blue Jackets in Game 1 of their first-round series.

The native of Savonlinna, Finland, scored five goals and had nine points in 13 games for the Red Wings this season. He had 15 goals and 46 points in 57 games with the Griffins.

Leino signed with Detroit as a free agent last year after a 77-point season with Jokerit Helsinki in Finland.
