Devils forward Zach Parise named NHL's first star of the week

NEW YORK - Zach Parise is the NHL's first star of the week.

The New Jersey Devils winger led all scorers with eight points and helped his team to four victories. Parise has already set a career high in goals with 34 this season. Entering play Monday, he was fifth in points with 69.

Calgary Flames centre Matthew Lombardi was named second star while Ilya Kovalchuk of the Atlanta Thrashers took the third star honours.

Lombardi recorded seven points last week, helping the Flames earn seven of eight available points and extend their lead atop the Northwest Division.

Kovalchuk had five goals, including a hat trick on Sunday during a win over Anaheim.
