As a New York Rangers fan living in New York State, I haven’t seen much of Jarome Iginla and the Calgary Flames.
I have listened to analysts on Versus, NBC, CBC and even the Rangers’ MSG Network talk about Iginla. Not just about how he is a great player, but also about how he is a great ambassador for the game.
I knew Iginla as one of the top players in the league, but personally I had never seen what was so great about his character.
On Dec. 7, the Rangers hosted the Flames and Iginla scored the first goal of the game in the second period en route to a 3-0 Flames win. During the second intermission, MSG Network’s Al Trautwig interviewed Iginla, which is where I realized what the hype was all about.
The Flames captain had a smile on his face the entire time and actually looked like he wanted to be interviewed; he didn’t look like most of the interviewed players who can’t wait to get off camera. It was here I realized why everyone had put such an emphasis on what a great guy Jarome is.
Does Jarome have a post-playing job lined up? If not, I think he’d make a great commissioner.
