Ducks open season-long road trip in Detroit

Anaheim (28-26-5) at Detroit (38-12-8), 7:30 pm EST

DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Anaheim Ducks will open a critical

six-game road swing against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday in a

meeting between the last two Stanley Cup champions.

Two years removed from their championship season, the Ducks are

in ninth place in the Western Conference - one point out of the

final playoff spot.

Anaheim starts their longest trip of the campaign at Joe Louis

Arena, where the Ducks have had little success in their 15-year

history. Anaheim has posted a dismal 3-20-3 all-time record in

Detroit.

The Ducks will try to end that trend and avoid a third

consecutive loss. Ryan Getzlaf netted a goal and set up two

others during Wednesday's 4-3 setback to the Los Angeles Kings.

The defending champion Red Wings avoided a third straight defeat

Wednesday with a 6-2 victory over the Nashville Predators.

Captain Nicklas Lidstrom and Johan Franzen each recorded two

goals and an assist for Detroit, which owns a 21-4-3 record at

home this season.
