Essential Water Cooler

It is quickly becoming clear that Chicago is again one of the most dominant teams in the league – not that anyone had any doubts before the season began.

A popular pick to repeat as Stanley Cup champions this season, the Hawks have shown no signs of a Stanley Cup hangover, and now sit near the top of the Central Division. We haven’t had a repeat champion since 1998 when Detroit did so. The Blackhawks are the first team to win multiple Stanley Cups in the post-lockout era, can they become the first to repeat? Let your thoughts be known in the comments section below.

Primetime Play

In a beautifully set up play, Niklas Hjalmarsson needled a pass through traffic onto the stick of Joakim Nordstrom, who potted his first NHL goal in his fourth career game. The Swedish center was the 90th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft.

Men of the Night

1. Tyler Seguin, Dallas: The young star, who came to Dallas in a shocking trade this offseason, scored four points and led the Stars over Winnipeg.

2. Thomas Greiss, Phoenix: In his first start of the season, Greiss stopped 36 of 37 shots against Philadelphia, including some crucial saves in the final minute of the game.

3. Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles: With 27 saves on 28 shots, plus three saves in the shootout, he picks up his third win of the season.

4. Tomas Fleischmann, Florida: In a dominant night against he Penguins, the left winger had four points, including an assist on the game-winning goal.

Better Luck Next Time

Flyers forward Claude Giroux has yet to score a point in five games played this season. This is extremely troubling for a player who has averaged a point per game over the past three seasons. He was even taken off the top line by coach Craig Berube at the beginning of last night’s third period against the Coyotes.

Brad Lambert Proving Doubters Wrong With Dream Pre-Season

Once a challenger for the No. 1 pick in the 2022 NHL draft, Brad Lambert went 30th overall. His impressive pre-season means the Winnipeg Jets have a nice problem: should he stay or should he go?
