Edmonton Oilers name Rod Daum coach of AHL's Springfield Falcons

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Edmonton Oilers named Rod Daum as the new coach of the team's AHL affiliate, the Springfield Falcons, on Tuesday.

Daum had been serving as a pro scout with the Oilers and will be behind the Falcons bench Wednesday against the Manchester Monarchs. A native of Churchbridge, Sask., Daum served as an assistant coach with Oilers last season.

He replaces former Falcons coach Jeff Truitt, who was hired in June 2008.

This season under Truitt, Springfield had a record of 16-27-7.
