Edmonton Oilers promote Rick Olczyk to assistant GM

EDMONTON - The Edmonton Oilers are giving Rick Olczyk a promotion.

The club announced Friday that Olczyk will become the team's new Assistant General Manager & Director of Hockey Operations/Legal Affairs.

The 38-year-old Chicago native, who served as the Oilers' Director of Hockey Administration and Legal Affairs during last season, will work closely with Kevin Lowe, Steve Tambellini and Kevin Prendergast on various hockey operations duties. This includes player contracts, negotiations and NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement issues.

Rick is the younger brother of former NHL forward Ed Olczyk. He joined the Oilers in June 2007 from the private sector, where he ran his own legal consulting firm in Chicago for six seasons.
