Edmonton Oilers sign free-agent defenceman Sheldon Souray to contract

The native of Elk Point, Alta., has agreed to an undisclosed deal with the team. He's coming off a career season with the Montreal Canadiens in which he had 26 goals and 64 points.

Souray is a two-time NHL all-star.

He was originally drafted by New Jersey and played for the Devils before being dealt to Montreal in 2000.
