Things were just starting to look up for Evander Kane in Buffalo, but the 24-year-old left winger may be sidelined following what looked like an apparent left leg injury.
With the Sabres trailing New Jersey 4-2 Saturday night, Kane chased his own dump in into the corner when he was hit by Devils defenseman David Schlemko. Immediately upon contact, Kane grimaced and went down in a heap on the ice:
Kane was immediately attended to and had to be helped off the ice and post-game Dan Bylsma had nothing to report on the extent of Kane’s injury.
"I don't have anything to give you of any idea but I don't know," Sabres coach Dan Bylsma told NHL.com. "I don't have any indication. I just knew he wasn't going to come back in the game, but I don't have an indication for you at this time.”
One big concern is that Kane missed more than 20 games due to lower-body injuries. He missed eight games to start the 2014-15 campaign with a sprained right knee, but this injury appears to be his left leg.
Kane offered an update post-game, but didn't give a timetable:
Through eight games this season, Kane had scored one goal and three points.
