Evander Kane suffers leg injury in Sabres’ loss to Devils

Evander Kane could be on the shelf for a while following what looked like a serious leg injury in Buffalo’s 4-3 loss to New Jersey Saturday. Kane collided with Devils defenseman David Schlemko in the corner and needed to be helped off the ice.

Things were just starting to look up for Evander Kane in Buffalo, but the 24-year-old left winger may be sidelined following what looked like an apparent left leg injury.

With the Sabres trailing New Jersey 4-2 Saturday night, Kane chased his own dump in into the corner when he was hit by Devils defenseman David Schlemko. Immediately upon contact, Kane grimaced and went down in a heap on the ice:

Kane was immediately attended to and had to be helped off the ice and post-game Dan Bylsma had nothing to report on the extent of Kane’s injury.

"I don't have anything to give you of any idea but I don't know," Sabres coach Dan Bylsma told "I don't have any indication. I just knew he wasn't going to come back in the game, but I don't have an indication for you at this time.”

One big concern is that Kane missed more than 20 games due to lower-body injuries. He missed eight games to start the 2014-15 campaign with a sprained right knee, but this injury appears to be his left leg.

Kane offered an update post-game, but didn't give a timetable:

Through eight games this season, Kane had scored one goal and three points.
