Evgeni Malkin, Ryan Miller and Alex Ovechkin named NHL weekly award winners

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Pittsburgh Penguins centre Evgeni Malkin, Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller and Washington Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin were named the NHL's three stars for the week Monday.

Malkin was the top star with nine points (five goals, four assists) in four games as the Penguins kept within one point of first place in the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference.

He leads the NHL with 46 goals and 97 points in 68 games and is on pace to break his career-high of 47 goals set in the 2007-08 season.

Miller captured the second star by posting four wins and a 1.26 goals-against average and .956 save percentage over that span. The Sabres won four straight to keep pace with Washington in the race for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.

Ovechkin is the third star after leading the League with six goals and an assist in four games as the Capitals earned six out of a possible eight points to maintain the eighth seed in the East. The two-time Maurice (Rocket) Richard Trophy winner is tied for fourth in the NHL with 36 goals.
