I found Adam Proteau's interview with Paul Kelly to be a good window into the man at the helm of the NHLPA. Of particular interest was Kelly's take on European expansion, suggesting it's "critical for our future growth."
Can we please put to rest the talk of European expansion? Management, coaches and players moan about the travel commitments at present. If Los Angeles to Montreal is so taxing, what’s so good about San Jose to Helsinki?
Expanding to Europe should be a non-issue. The NHL is already bloated from ill-fated expansion into sunbelt areas that were thought to be good for the game and clearly weren't. Adding teams from Europe would be a logistical and scheduling nightmare.
Please Gary, learn from your past mistakes.
