Status: Philadelphia Flyers right winger.

Ht: 6-2 Wt: 214

DOB: April 15, 1989 In: Kladno, Czech Republic

First Hockey Memory: "I think when I was five, taking a picture with Jags (Jaromir Jagr). When it was lockout in '94. The A team had a practice and my dad was with them and I was finishing my practice and my dad kind of stood me on the ice to take a picture with him. So I kinda remember that."

Hockey Inspirations: "My parents. My grandparents. They were supporting me since I was a kid. My sister. They were all sitting behind me driving to the practices, buying me new gear. With them I couldn't do it. So it was mostly them who inspired me to play hockey."

Current Car: "BMW."

Greatest Sports Moment: "I think when we won the World Championship in 2010 for Czech Republic. We were down three times, we almost didn't make it to the quarterfinals. And we made it in the last seconds. We won quarters and semis in shootouts. In the semi we tied it with seconds left. I assisted on that goal. That was one of the biggest goals in my career. Then beating the Russian team in the finals. They had a dream team over there. So we beat them 2-1. And the first goal in the playoffs, overtime goal (vs. Pittsburgh)."

Most Painful Moment: "I think when we lost to New Jersey. Three years ago. After we beat Pittsburgh 4-2. I think we had a great team to make a run. And we got shutdown by New Jersey. I think that was so, so bad."

Favorite NHL Uniforms: "My home team Kladno is blue and white and white/blue so I gotta go with Toronto. (A teammate mock-seriously questions Jakub, “How can you say Toronto?” To which he replies...) I'm just being honest."

Most Memorable Goal: "I think the Pittsburgh overtime goal."

Favorite Sport Outside Hockey: "Tennis."

Funny Hockey Memory: "Raffl makes me laugh everyday. He's a funny guy. There's something every day that you can pull out. Most funny moments are on the bench, sometimes in the game when a guy tries to jump on the ice and just clips the boards and goes head-first to the ice. When he tries to get on the ice and he gets pulled back, so he tries to jump back on and he gets caught between benches and endboards. He was stuck in there like a sandwich. It happened to me in Columbus actually. I was jumping on the ice. Then I tried to jump back and I had my feet there and I just jumped back. The guys were just laughing."

Funniest Player(s) Encountered: "Jared Boll for Columbus."

Why Do You Love Playing Hockey: "It's fun. It's not everybody can do what they love and make a living out of it. Just fun to do. Sometimes you don't even know how thankful you should be for doing what you love."

Three Athletes You Like To Watch & Follow: "Federer. I travel to watch him play. I saw him win the French Open in 2009. Ronaldo. And Miguel Cabrera."

People/Personality Qualities Most Admired: "Honesty. Be kind. And don't be selfish. And don't be two-faced. Because I think a lot of people in the world are pretending. Don't be two-faced, be straight up."

Mark "Scoop" Malinowski's two latest books "Facing Federer" and "Facing Hewitt" are available at He's currently working on "Facing Probert."
