Gretzky fined $10,000; Boynton suspended one game for instigating late fight

TORONTO - The NHL fined Phoenix Coyotes head coach Wayne Gretzky US$10,000 on Tuesday as a result of defenceman Nick Boynton's instigator penalty in the final five minutes of Monday's 5-0 loss to San Jose.

Boynton was suspended automatically for one game for instigating a fight with the Sharks' Steve Bernier at 15:50 of the third period.

The instigating player's coach is also fined automatically.

The players' suspension money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund while the coach's fine goes to the NHL Foundation.
